Importance of exercise for children’s mental development.

Exercise benefits
What is exercise?

Exercise is basically any physical activity that causes the human heart to beat faster and the lungs to breathe harder. These activities include running, cycling, swimming, playing football, and more.

While modern science has created many comforts for men, the rapid pace of modern life has also taken man away from nature. In this day and age, man has become “indoor”. If we take a look around us, we will find that most of us spend most of our time at home and at work under one roof.

Even during travel, most people stay “indoor” away. This “lifestyle” of ours seems very easy and comfortable to us, but the fact is that because of this we are slowing down and our health is also being affected because of the facilitation of our immune system. It is becoming “weak” and “fragile”.

According to experts, in today’s fast-paced world, the best way to stay connected to nature and maintain good health is to set aside time for exercise on a daily basis in your daily routine.

The average daily duration of exercise should not be less than 30 minutes, however, according to the World Health Organization, everyone should exercise for one hour daily. Unfortunately, young people around the world do not have the time or resources to carry out this important daily activity.

What does the World Health Organization say?

According to a report by the World Health Organization, 4 out of 5 children between the ages of 11 and 17 worldwide are not getting the exercise they need for a healthy lifestyle.

This was the first study of its kind by the WHO to show that children’s mental development and social abilities are being affected by not getting enough exercise. The report says that the problem of not getting the proposed one-hour workout exists in both rich and poor countries.

Exercise and gender differences

The survey was conducted by the World Health Organization in 146 countries. Four of these countries, where girls exercise more than boys, include Tonga, Samoa, Afghanistan, and Zambia. In the other 142 countries, boys have a longer duration of exercise than girls.

According to research, Bangladeshi children are at the forefront of exercise, but even there, 66% of children are not exercising for an hour. Boys in the Philippines (93%) and girls in South Korea (97%) are exercising the least. In the UK, 75% of boys and 85% of girls are not exercising up to the target.

According to research, 85% of girls worldwide are not able to do the recommended exercise while 78% of boys are not doing it.

What is exercise?

Exercise is basically any physical activity that causes the human heart to beat faster and the lungs to breathe harder. These activities include running, cycling, swimming, playing football, and more.

The goal for moderate to intense exercise for a day is 60 minutes. According to the World Health Organization, one hour of exercise is not a “very difficult goal.” If you want good health and young people with good health, good mind and development, they should exercise for one hour daily.

Benefits of exercising regularly

There are short- to long-term benefits to exercising regularly every day. The immediate benefits of exercise include improved mental health, moderate weight, strong muscles and bones, healthy heart, and lungs.

The long-term benefits of exercising are staying strong, healthy, and young for a long time and protecting against diseases of old age such as Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, etc.

Furthermore, according to the World Health Organization, ‘healthy children are more likely to become healthy young people. They are also less likely to develop heart disease and diabetes.

There is also growing evidence that exercise is important for mental development. “It’s easier for children to learn things, they have better social behavior and their minds are sharper.”

Reasons for low exercise

According to experts, whether you exercise or not depends on your preferences. The World Health Organization’s review does not include reasons for exercising less, but some things seem to be the norm.

One reason is the focus on academic performance rather than physical health. Leanne Riley, one of the authors of the report, says: “Children at this age are called upon to emphasize reading. They often spend most of the day sitting and reading, so they have fewer opportunities to exercise. ”

Researchers also say that there are concerns about the safety, accessibility, and low cost of sports facilities. Also, dangerous roads mean that cycling or walking to a friend’s house or school is no longer an option.

According to researchers, one of the reasons for less exercise among young people is the prevalence of smart gadgets. Excessive use of video games, entertainment phones, tablets, or computers also makes it impossible for children to find time to exercise.

One of the greatest methods to get kids to be more active is to restrict the amount of time allocated in inactive activities, especially watching TV or other screens. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises that parents:

  • Set limits on the time consumed using media, which includes TV, social media, and video games. The media should not get the place of getting sufficient sleep of 8-10 hours and staying active.
  • Make sure that children’s between the age of 2 to 5 years didn’t use the screen more than 1 hour a day.
  • Discourage any online activity, except video-chatting, for kids younger than 18 months.
  • Put TVs, computers, and video games outside of children’s rooms.
  • Switch off screens while mealtimes.

Final Words

Exercise is very important for the mental and physical development of children. Get your children accustomed to exercise from the beginning. And try to spend their time in useful activities instead of wasting time on video games or social media sites.
